Sister Act at the Kentucky Center

Sister Act, the musical, follows the exploits of singer Deloris Van Cartier. She is taken into protective custody in a nearly defunct convent after witnessing a murder. Flouting the strict Mother Superior, Delores brings new life to the convent’s choir.

Sister Act is an adaptation of the hit 1992 movie of the same name, starring Whoopi Goldberg. Audience members familiar with the film version will surely enjoy a live performance of the hilarious story line and lively score.

Oscar winner Alan Menken, best known for his work on The Little Mermaid, Beauty and the Beast, and Little Shop of Horrors, notably composed songs for this show. The musical has been produced every year since 2006, with its Broadway run kicking off in 2011. The Broadway production ended in August of 2012 after 561 performances. The 27th Annual Caper in Louisville, KY

Almost 700 are expected to be in attendance at the Caper, which features entertainment, an auction, and an impressive variety of food served up by local restaurants. The University of Louisville Basketball team often appears at this all-ages event.

The Caper takes place at the Kentucky International Convention Center, located at 221 South Fourth Street, Louisville, Kentucky. Casual clothing is appropriate for the event.

Along with enjoying the festivities, this event raises critical funds for a respected nonprofit organization that provides services to a vulnerable population in the Louisville area. The Family & Children’s Place‘s vision is  “freeing children from abuse, neglect and violence” and serves almost 6,500 children and families each year. [Read more…]

War Horse at Kentucky Center Stage

The play is set in World War I and tells the story of Joey, a horse, who is conscripted by the British cavalry and sent off to fight in France. Albert, Joey’s former owner, sets off to the front lines to rescue his horse. The play features horse puppets created by South Africa’s Handspring Puppet Company.

The play originated as a 1982 children’s novel by Michael Morpurgo, making its way to the stage in England. After crossing the Atlantic and debuting on stage in New York City, Steven Spielberg produced the film version of War Horse, which was released in 2011 and starred Jeremy Irvine as Albert.
